Bernard Leemker (1899-1990) – Volendammer botters in harbor of Hoorn

Originally lived in Groningen, but after his studies he moved to The Hague where he settled and trained as a painter, illustrator and advertising designer and he received many assignments. Numerous posters, posters and reproductions of his work were made. Especially from Spanish subjects, clowns, etc. He was influenced by painters such as Piet van der Hem, and Willy Sluiter, but developed a unique recognizable style and painted with a humorous slant. In addition, he also painted landscapes and river views, an example of which is shown in’Volendammer fishing boats in the harbor of Hoorn ‘. He led a rather withdrawn life and therefore little information about him is known.
