Adrianus Eversen (1818-1898) – Harbor View

Adrianus Eversen was already appreciated in the 19th century for the typical Dutch atmosphere that he managed to evoke in his work. As a member of Arti et Amicitiae, he belonged to the artist elite of his time. Eversen was a counterpart of Cornelis Springer – both were students of H.G. ten Cate – and, like these, painted mostly Old Dutch townscapes. However, he allowed himself more freedom in the choice of his subjects. He painted largely imaginary cityscapes, composed of existing and invented fragments, in contrast to the more truthful Springer. He was also a student of Cornelis de Kruyff. People in their daily lives, Dutch architecture in the city and in the countryside and the light from the sun played a major role in his work.
