Louis Soonius(1883-1956) – Street in Zierikzee

Louis Soonius was born on March 10, 1883 in The Hague. He is registered in the registry office under the name Lodewijk Soonius. Louis died on March 9, 1956 in The Hague. In addition to being a painter, he was a draftsman and watercolorist. Painter Louis Soonius was a member of the Haagse Kunstkring, an association of artists and art lovers founded in 1891. This brought him into contact with artists such as: Jan Toorop (1858-1928), Ben Viegers (1886-1947) and Jan Knikker (1889-1957). Soonius is strongly influenced in his work by the impressionism of the Hague School. This work is made on so-called tiled canvas, the wallpaper can be seen on the back. Beautiful, unique painting with a history. Because the houses on the Slabberwerf are long gone. It would have been painted from the Karnemelksvaart.
