Johannes Hermanus Barend Koekoek was born in Amsterdam. He was an important member of the famous Koekkoek family of painters, to be more precise the son of the marine painter Hermanus Koekkoek Sr. Johannes Hermanus Barend Koekoek died in Hilversum in 1912. Like his father, he was an extremely skilled marine painter.
