Gerbrand Frederik van Schagen was born on March 7, 1880 in The Hague and was a student of the Academy in The Hague. He was taught by the painter W.B. Tholen and worked in the style of the Hague School. Van Schagen was pre-eminently a painter of the Dutch landscape, but also captured other subjects on canvas. His work can be found in the Singer Museum in Laren.
